By: Wallace Cackowski
Though I've traveled to six continents, 60 countries, and all 50 states, Africa is my primary love. It's the most incredible continent on earth; anyone who's ever been there can't come back not feeling changed. Something just feels right there.
My passion for Africa started while watching the Tarzan adventures on Saturday mornings as a kid. When I finally visited, I felt an incredible sense of connection to the land and the array of wildlife.
Because of my passion and enduring love for Africa and its wildlife, and my concern for the loss of many of these magnificent creatures and their habitat, I am pleased and privileged to leave a percentage of my estate to African Wildlife Foundation (AWF).
AWF provides programs to protect the amazing wildlife of Africa; they understand that the communities must be part of the dialogue in order to find a long-term solution. Their approach to conservation shows respect for the local people. They are also making a real difference in stopping killing, trafficking, and the demand for wildlife products like rhino horn and ivory through education, enforcement, and outreach.
I want to help ensure AWF's work continues for all of our lifetimes. I would encourage anyone who can give to this cause to do so, so that all species whose habitat is Africa continue in the next millennium, and in millennia to follow.
Africa thrills me. It is like nothing else, a surge of your senses you'll never forget. How do you explain the feeling of watching a bull elephant come running out of the bush? How do you tell others how it feels to eat around the campfire and watch that big orange sun go down? You can't—you have to experience Africa.
